A total of 961 start-ups in Spain and Portugal were presented at this year’s Entrepreneurship Awards XXI, an initiative promoted by CaixaBank, through DayOne- its specialized division that provides banking services for technology and innovation companies and its investors- co granted by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, through ENISA. This year’s participation increased 36.3% compared to its previous edition.

The territories with the highest number of candidates have been Portugal, Catalonia, Madrid, Andalusia, the Basque Country and the Valencian Community. The biggest increases have taken place in the Balearic Islands, the Basque Country and Portugal, where the number of participating companies has doubled.

By sector, 17% of the participants were companies from the Commerce Tech sector, followed by those from Tourism Tech sector (13.7%), Agro Tech (12.7%), Health Tech (11%), Impact Tech (10.5%) and Fin & Insur Tech (8.5%).

The awarded companies will be announced during the first semester of 2019 and will receive the award in the framework of innovation, technology and entrepreneurship ‘DayOne Innovation Summits’. A new program created by CaixaBank DayOne to be held in Spain and Portugal and where the main players of the entrepreneurial, technological and investor ecosystem of each territory will gather. These sessions will combine workshops, master classes, presentations and round tables, explaining the new trends in the sector and the peculiarities of each zone, and will showcase success stories. The first ‘DayOne Innovation Summit’ was held in Barcelona and brought together more than 300 attendees at CaixaBank’ Auditorium.
